Patients In Epilepsy Care
Clinical Care
We have successfully registered over five thousand patients and are actively following up over 1500 each year. Our regional network and co-management strategy enables us to refer over 800 patients for epilepsy care in the primary care setting. We're proud to say that, every month at least one of those we serve in epilepsy care are being withdrawn from anti-seizure medication because their seizures have remitted! Hear what our patients have to say about their experience!
Awareness
For the past 10 years, we have had a considerable impact on raising awareness and empowering children, youth and young adults living with epilepsy. Through our established media network and partnership with local radio and TV, we have been able to spread the word about the challenges faced by those with epilepsy and the importance of advocating for their rights. Moreover, we have trained over ten thousands Pupils and Teachers in primary and high schools across the country, provided a platform for hundreds of individuals to commercialize their talents and skills in Epilepsy Art, Poetry, Music fashion and design, and developed Epilepsy Education booklets and hand books published in the local language. We strongly believe that our efforts have made a real difference to the lives of those living with epilepsy and continue to strive to make a lasting positive impact on the epilepsy community
Research
The prevalence of epilepsy and its associated psychological consequences are of great concern in rural Kenya, impacting the lives of people with epilepsy and their families. To address this challenge, we have assessed ways to improve adherence to medication and combat the psychological consequences of seizures. By utilizing trained Community Health Promoters (CHPs) and counsellors to improve self- management, we have demonstrated that we can effectively improve adherence to medication and reduce psychological distress associated with epilepsy.
